Activities to be carried out by Pakistan Meteorological Department


  1. Provide regular  “Climate Outlook” updates and translate into impact outlook and advice for flood/drought- preparedness action and/or agricultural system adaptation action that is well understood by farmers and community members at risk of floods and droughts
  2. Engage FM radio stations and organize regular dissemination of impact outlook/early warning advice for action through FM Radio to cover entire country with special emphases to Peshawar, Charsadda, and Nowshera (KPK). Make arrangements for SMS delivery of critical warnings in the three districts as well.
  3. Agree with PDMA on a protocol for dissemination of impact outlook and advice for action that ensures no delays in dissemination of early warning and a minimum flood early warning lead-time in concerned areas of        hours
  4. Verify if impact outlook message and early warning advice for action is widely received, understood and the advice for action is being well considered by recipients at the community level. Identify obstacles for taking the correct action.
  5. Optimize early warning dissemination and messaging through coordination with PDMAs/DDMAs, and explore existing arrangements for early warning dissemination arrangements between DMA-system  and mobile phone providers/fm radio stations
  6. Develop and distribute two video documentaries. One on flash flood risk in KPK and desired community response to minimize risk. Another on hydro-meteorological hazards in Pakistan during winter and precautionary measures. One thousand copies of each video will be distributed among colleges, universities, DRM agencies after introduction in a media workshop. The videos will also be put online.
